The weight was cast as a tall cylinder (max. diam. 2 cm, height 0.9 cm, weight 14.4127 gm; Fig. 1). The surface of the weight is somewhat damaged and coated with a fine green patina. A slightly depressed dot marks the center of the flat upper and lower faces of the weight. One face is incised with two concentric circles and the other is worn, but may have been incised with similar circles. Based on its shape and weight, this weight is dated to the Byzantine period, probably to its later phase. The denomination of the weight is half a Byzantine ounce. Near the weight pottery fragments from the Byzantine period were discovered.

 

Remains from the Early Islamic, Mamluk and Ottoman periods, as well as marble elements from the Byzantine period were exposed in an excavation that had previously been conducted c. 200 m north of the site (HAESI 113:93–98).
