In May 2012, a salvage excavation was conducted along Yo’ash Ben Gideon Street in Ashqelon’s Barneʻa neighborhood (Permit No. A-6497; map ref. 159169–228/621886–963), prior to construction. The excavation, undertaken by the Israel Antiquities Authority and financed by the Afridar company, was directed by I. Peretz. The glass finds were studied by T. Winter, and G. Bijovsky studied the coins. The excavation yielded building remains from the Roman through the Early Islamic periods.
