A trial excavation was conducted on the lower western slope of the site at Qiryat Ata. One square, revealing the remains of a poorly preserved wall, was opened (Permit No. A-4424*; map ref. NIG 21016–18/74547–49, OIG 16016–18/24547–49). Several ashlar stones were discovered, not in situ; two stones, set on natural soil, were probably the remains of the wall that was oriented east–west. Several potsherds from the Mamluk period were discovered near the wall, probably indicating the time of its construction.
