The survey area extends across a hilly region with steep slopes, facing north and northeast (Fig. 1). Remains of Al-Dawayima village are visible along the surface of the hill and include farming terraces, enclosure walls, cisterns and cave dwellings, some of which have entrances built of dressed stones. On the highest part of the hill is a dense concentration of cave dwelling remains (Fig. 2), agricultural walls and fences, which is probably the core of the village. A thick layer of fill from the destruction of the village is situated on the hilltop and particularly along its eastern slope. Ancient finds are probably located beneath this layer. Most of the cave dwellings were hewn in periods preceding the Muslim settlement. Other finds also discovered in the survey region included rock-hewn installations, several shaft tombs and a columbarium cave, as well as two Muslim cemeteries that have round and rectangular graves hewn in the bedrock and built tombs, some of which are plundered (Fig. 3).

Thirty-seven sites (1–37) were documented in the survey (Fig. 1).
1. Map ref. 191740/604933. A hewn cave (length c. 20 m, width 15 m, presumed height 6 m) containing an olive press. The ceiling was supported by four rock-hewn columns (diam. of each 3 m). The eastern part of the cave collapsed in on itself. The cave has four other chambers that are hewn in its sides. A fragment of an olive press weight was found in the cave (Fig. 4).
2. Map ref. 191930/604912. A rock-hewn cistern. Its square opening (0.2×0.2 m) was renovated at the time of the Muslim settlement.
3. Map ref. 191942/604916. A rock-hewn cistern. Its opening (diam. 0.7 m) is hexagonal and was renovated at the time of the Muslim settlement.
4–6. Map ref. 191894/604826, 191940/604836, 191900/604845. Cave openings in the eastern section of the hill. These might be remains of hiding refuges, a phenomenon characteristic of the region.
7. Map ref. 192101/604891. A rock-hewn cistern with a round opening that was not renovated (diam. 0.7 m).
8. Map ref. 192091/604942. A rock-hewn cistern with a rectangular opening (0.2×0.3 m) that was renovated.
9. Map ref. 192102/604993. A rock-hewn cistern with a round opening (diam. 0.7 m).
10. Map ref. 192071/604987. A rock-cut cave and a cistern located inside it. The cave is rectangular (3×5 m). A round rock-cut opening (diam. 0.1 m) was cut in its ceiling (height 1.5 m) above the opening of the cistern that is hewn in its floor (width of opening 0.8 m, depth c. 3 m; Fig. 5). A feeder channel (length 0.3 m) leads to the cistern.
11. Map ref. 192042/605020. A Muslim grave.
12. Map ref. 191956/605029. A shaft tomb (length 1.5 m, diam. 1 m) that leads to a rock-hewn chamber. Most of the shaft is filled with soil (Fig. 6).
13. Map ref. 191925/605173. A cave dwelling (length 25 m, width 15 m, height 2.5 m) whose walls were hewn for the purpose of enlarging its interior. There are two separate areas in the cave. Numerous niches were hewn in the walls. The cave opening faces north and in the entrance to it is a courtyard surrounded by a fieldstone wall. Another opening hewn in the ceiling collapsed into the cave’s interior. A hewn depression (diam. 1.2 m) in the cave’s eastern corner has an opening at its bottom (diam. 0.7 m) that leads to an underground chamber (depth c. 2.5 m) that might be a storeroom. Based on the nature of the rock-cutting the cave was probably part of a hiding refuge.
14. Map ref. 191874/605228. A rock-cut cistern with a circular opening (diam. 0.7 m). Its upper part is built of seven fieldstones courses. The cistern is located inside a Muslim cemetery.
15. Map ref. 191873/605255. A rock-cut cistern with a circular opening (diam. 0.6 m). Its upper part is built of five fieldstone courses. The cistern is located inside a Muslim cemetery.
16. Map ref. 191713/605350. A rock-hewn winepress located on an exposed bedrock terrace. The installation consists of a rectangular treading floor (3×4 m) and a rectangular vat (1.0×1.5 m); around the latter, four cupmarks (diam. of two cupmarks 1 m, diam. of two others 0.2 m; Fig. 7) are hewn.
17. Map ref. 191696/605381. Three rock-hewn cupmarks (diam. 0.7 m) located 1.5 m apart.
18. Map ref. 191694/605381. Six rock-hewn cupmarks (diam. of one 1 m, diam. of other five 0.1 m).
19. Map ref. 191765/605417. A rock-hewn winepress on a bedrock terrace. The installation consists of a square treading floor (2×2 m, depth 0.2 m) and a collecting vat (1.0×1.5 m, depth 1 m).
20. Map ref. 191836/605424. An entrance (diam. 0.8 m) to a shaft tomb.
21. Map ref. 191791/605370. An entrance (diam. 0.6 m) to a shaft tomb.
22. Map ref. 191681/605409. A round winepress consisting of a circular treading floor (diam. 1.5 m) with a circular collecting vat (diam. 0.5 m) located inside it.

Most of the survey area is covered with numerous farming terraces and enclosure walls. Ancient dressed stones are located between the ruins of the abandoned village of Al-Dawayima. Antiquities, such as cisterns, shaft tombs and rock-hewn caves, were found in the area. The village is apparently situated on ancient remains, similar to Horbat Migdal located west of the survey area.
