In February–April 2014, a salvage excavation was conducted north of the neighborhood of Nahal ‘Ashan (Newe Menahem B) in the northwestern part of Be’er Sheva‘ (Permit No. A-7026; map ref. 176–8/575–6), prior to construction. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and financed by the Ministry of Construction and Housing, was directed by D. Eisenberg-Degen. A. Lester studied two metal artifacts—a coffee pot and a bracelet—and A. Peretz studied an assemblage of modern ammunition. The excavation yielded two farmsteads from the late Byzantine period, and buildings and agricultural plots from the late Ottoman period and the early years of the British Mandate.
