In April–May 2014, a trial excavation was conducted at Horbat Usha (Permit No. A-7092; map ref. 213811–56/744962–5014), prior to paving a section of Highway 6. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and financed by the Cross-Israel Highway Company Ltd., was directed by A. Massarwa (photography), with the assistance of Y. Amrani (administration), C. Ben-Ari and A. Dagot (GPS), R. Mishayev and R. Liran (surveying and drafting), A. Gorzalczany (scientific guidance), P. Gendelman (ceramics) and K. Sa‘id.
