Kh. el-‘Umari (map ref. 17950/5850) is situated in the surveyed region, between the two eastern tributaries of Nahal Pehar. It includes many buildings and installations that probably belong to a single large farmstead from the Byzantine period.
Forty-one sites were surveyed (Sites 10 and 29 was canceled).
 
1. (Map ref. 179736/586606). A farm (20 × 20 m) with eleven rooms arranged around a central courtyard. The walls of the farm are built of unworked chalk stones (max. preserved height 1.5 m). The construction style of the farm structure is characteristic of the outlying regions during the British Mandate. It might have been constructed atop the remains of a Byzantine building.
 
2. (Map ref. 179547/586337). A rectangular field watchtower (3 × 5 m) built of unworked chalk stones, characteristic of the Byzantine period.
 
3. (Map ref. 179751/586076). A farm (c. 10 × 20 m) built of unworked chalk stones and covered with alluvium. Pottery sherds dating to the Byzantine period were found in its vicinity.
 
4. (Map ref. 179646/586065). A cistern with a hexagonal opening (0.4 × 0.4 m), hewn in a bedrock terrace covered with alluvium.
 
5. (Map ref. 179199/586065). A cistern with a square opening (0.5 × 0.5 m), hewn in a bedrock terrace on the northern bank of Nahal Pehar.
 
6. (Map ref. 178677/585185). A cistern with an irregularly shaped opening (diam. 0.8 m), hewn in a bedrock terrace on the southern bank of one of the tributaries of Nahal Pehar.
 
7. (Map ref. 179003/584946). A cistern with a square opening, built of fieldstones bonded in concrete (0.6 × 0.6 m).
 
8. (Map ref. 179044/584976). A wall (width 0.4 m) built of chalk and covered with alluvium.
 
9. (Map ref. 179294/584816). A farm (15 × 20 m) built of unworked chalk and covered with alluvium. A main building (10 × 10 m) and courtyard (10 × 15 m) to its west were noted. Two Bedouin graves were located within the precincts of the building. Pottery sherds dating to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods were found in the vicinity of the farm.
 
11. (Map ref. 179468/584820). A rock-hewn cistern (diam. of opening 1 m) on a bedrock terrace on the southern bank of one of the Nahal Pehar tributaries.
 
12. (Map ref. 179777/584609). A field watchtower (6 × 10 m) built of dry chalk construction (preserved height 1.6 m). An open courtyard (3 × 10 m) is situated on its southern side. The field watchtower is characteristic of the construction in the outlying regions at the time of the British Mandate.
 
13. (Map ref. 179986/584666). A rock-hewn cistern with a circular opening (diameter 0.6 m) and a built channel that collects runoff. The cistern is still in use.
 
14. (Map ref. 179840/584909). A rectangular field watchtower (4 × 10 m) consisting of three rooms. Its walls are built of unworked chalk stones (preserved height 0.5 m). Pottery dating to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods was found in its vicinity.
 
15. (Map ref. 179178/585002). A rectangular structure (3 × 6 m) built of chalk stones, probably a field watchtower.
 
16. (Map ref. 179220/585150). A farming terrace (length 10 m) built of fieldstones.
 
17. (Map ref. 179948/585394). A rectangular field watchtower (3 × 6 m) consisting of three rooms. Its walls are built of unworked chalk (preserved height 0.5 m). Pottery sherds dating to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods were found in its vicinity.
 
18. (Map ref. 179842/583654). A cistern opening hewn in a bedrock terrace, leading to a natural cave.
 
19. (Map ref. 179680/583669). A circular opening (diam. 0.8 m) of a cistern hewn in a bedrock terrace, leading to a natural cave.
 
20. (Map ref. 179121/583722). An ancient cistern renovated by modern means. The cistern has a side opening for collecting water.
 
21. (Map ref. 178658/583768). A square field watchtower (3 × 3 m) built of unworked chalk stones. Pottery sherds dating to the Byzantine period were found in its vicinity.
 
22. (Map ref. 178424/583990). A cistern with a square opening (0.6 × 0.6 m) hewn on a bedrock terrace on the northern bank of Nahal Duda’im.
 
23. (Map ref. 178548/584069). A square field watchtower (3 × 3 m) with walls built of unworked chalk (height 0.5 m). Pottery sherds dating to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods were found in its vicinity.
 
24. (Map ref. 179685/583511). A farmhouse consisting of two rooms (5 × 7 m) situated in the center of a courtyard (15 × 15 m). The walls of the building and courtyard are constructed of unworked chalk (height 0.6 m).

25. (Map ref. 178779/583492). A square field watchtower (3 × 3 m) with walls built of unworked chalk (height 0.5 m). Pottery sherds dating to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods were found in its vicinity.
 
26. (Map ref. 178770/583456). A square courtyard (10 × 10 m) with an installation or room located in its southeastern corner. The walls of the courtyard are built of large fieldstones (width 1 m).
 
27. (Map ref. 178841/583472). A square compound of buildings (20 × 20 m) situated on a hilltop and enclosed within a peripheral wall (width 1 m), with the remains of rooms running the length of the wall.
 
28. (Map ref. 179110/583478). A cistern renovated with modern concrete.
 
30. (Map ref. 179110/583476). A cistern renovated with modern concrete. A trough is hewn in a large stone near the cistern’s opening.
 
31. (Map ref. 178522/583310). A rectangular structure (5 × 15 m) built of unworked chalk. South of it is an open courtyard (15 × 15 m). Pottery sherds dating to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods were discovered in the vicinity of the building.
 
32. (Map ref. 178268/583684). A square structure (6 × 6 m) built around the opening of a natural cave. Fragments of black Gaza jars dating to the British Mandate were found in its vicinity.
 
33. (Map ref. 178505/582439). A rectangular field watchtower (4 × 10 m) with walls built of unworked chalk (height 1 m). Pottery sherds dating to the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods were discovered in the vicinity of the structure.
 
34. (Map ref. 178544/582568). A rectangular field watchtower (2 × 5 m) with walls built of unworked chalk and preserved to a height of one course.
 
35. (Map ref. 178575/582685). A building (10 × 10 m) destroyed as a result of modern activity. Pottery sherds dating to the Byzantine period were discovered in its vicinity.
 
36. (Map ref. 178676/582740). A circular opening of a cistern (diam. 0.6 m) hewn in a bedrock terrace, leading to a natural cave.

37. (Map ref. 179611/582533). A building comprised of five rooms and an inner space. Two columns that supported the ceiling were found in the large room. A columbarium is situated inside one of the rooms and a modern tomb is located in another. The building dates to the British Mandate.
 
38. (Map ref. 178956/582832). A cistern (diam. of opening 0.6 m) renovated with modern concrete.
 
39. (Map ref. 178954/582845). A cistern hewn in a bedrock terrace and covered with alluvium. A trough is hewn in a large stone located near the opening of the cistern.
 
40. (Map ref. 178966/582839). A cistern hewn in a bedrock terrace and covered with alluvium. The opening collapsed into the cistern.
 
41. (Map ref. 179405/583095). A field watchtower (6 × 6 m) consisting of two rooms and built of unworked chalk, bonded with mud mortar. The structure dates to the British Mandate.
 
42. (Map ref. 179691/582914). A cistern, located on the southern bank of Nahal Duda’im, hewn in a bedrock terrace covered with alluvium.
 
Most of the archaeological remains surveyed are characteristic of the habitation in the region during the Byzantine and Early Islamic periods. Isolated farms and agriculturally related remains such as cisterns, farming terraces and installations were found in the survey area.
