In August 2017, a salvage excavation was carried out at ‘Atlit (Permit No. A-8075; map ref. 194944–93/733502–49; Fig. 1) prior to development. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities and funded by the Gordi Company, was directed by A. Chockron, with the assistance of Y. Amrani (administration), R. Mishayev (surveying and drafting), A. Dagot (GPS), P. Gendelman (scientific guidance) and E. Oren (field photography).
The excavation was carried out at the Ridge Compound in ‘Atlit (
Ronen and Olami 1978: sites 106, 107;
Davidov 2019, and see references therein), on the southeastern slopes of the
kurkar ridge. Rock-cutting marks, possibly severance channels, and various cupmarks, wither hewn or natural, were found on three protruding rock outcrops (L1–L3; Fig. 2). Outcrop 3 bore several hewn channels, perhaps evidence of the detachment of a few quarried stones. No datable material was found.
